Complete hydraulic cylinder repair

We strip, inspect and rebuild hydraulic cylinders rather than simply replacing seals and hoping for the best. Our hydraulic disassembly bench safely presses out glands and pistons under controlled force, so the rod, barrel, piston, gland, seals, threads and ports can all be checked before the repair is quoted.

Common hydraulic cylinder problems we repair

A damaged ram does not always need complete replacement. We assess the cylinder and recommend the repair that makes sense for its condition.

Leaking seals

Oil leaking around the rod, gland, ports or end cap.

Cylinder bypass / drift

Ram will not hold pressure, creeps down or feels weak under load.

Bent or scored rod

Chrome rod is bent, scratched, pitted, rusted or damaged.

Damaged barrel

Bore is scored, worn or damaged and requires honing or further repair.

Broken components

Damaged piston, gland, thread, eye, clevis, port or other internal part.

No replacement available

Obsolete or hard-to-source cylinders can often be rebuilt or remanufactured.

Excavator ram & cylinder repairs

We repair hydraulic cylinders used across mini excavators, excavators, skid steers, loaders and other earthmoving machinery. Bring us the cylinder itself — you do not need to bring the whole machine.

In-house machining for hydraulic cylinder shafts pistons and glands

In-house machining when parts are damaged

A hydraulic cylinder can often be repaired even when the original rod, piston, gland or another component is badly damaged. Our machining capability lets us reproduce components to suit the existing cylinder rather than automatically replacing the complete assembly.

Hydraulic ram repair FAQs

Common questions about excavator and hydraulic cylinder repairs.

Can you repair a leaking excavator hydraulic cylinder?

Yes. We strip and inspect the cylinder, check the rod, barrel, piston, gland and seals, then quote the repair before work proceeds. Depending on condition, the job may involve resealing, polishing, honing or machining replacement components.

Can you repair a bent or damaged chrome rod?

Yes. We assess the rod for straightness, chrome damage and wear. Where replacement is the better option, we can machine a new shaft to suit the original cylinder.

Do you repair boom, arm and bucket cylinders?

Yes. We repair boom, arm or dipper, bucket, blade, steering, stabiliser and other hydraulic cylinders used on excavators and earthmoving equipment.

Can you repair cylinders when replacement parts are unavailable?

Often, yes. Our in-house machining capability allows us to manufacture items such as shafts, pistons, glands, barrels and ports when suitable off-the-shelf replacement parts are not available.

Do you pressure test hydraulic rams after repair?

Yes. Repaired cylinders are pressure tested in our Seven Hills workshop before being returned to service.

Can I bring the cylinder in for a quote first?

Yes. Bring the hydraulic ram or cylinder to our Seven Hills workshop for inspection and a free, no-obligation quote before repair work begins.
